Day 2 at Data + AI Summit 2026 was unforgettable. From mind-blowing product announcements to a moment at the Community Booth I will never forget, here is how my day unfolded.

The Keynote: Ali Ghodsi Sets the Vision

The day started with the keynote from Ali Ghodsi, and the energy in the room was electric. Ali framed the future of Data + AI around four priorities that stuck with me: Context, Cost, Control, and Choice. It was a simple but powerful way to think about where the industry is heading.

The product announcements were genuinely mind-blowing.

Ali introduced LTAP, Lake Transaction and Analytical Processing, bringing transactional and analytical workloads together in the lakehouse. He announced Reyden, described as the world's fastest engine. And the Genie announcements were remarkable: Genie Ontology that continuously learns enterprise context, and Genie One, a smart AI coworker that understands your data.

There was also a strong focus on Lakebase, real-time lakehouse capabilities, and the Customer Lake. What struck me most was how much the entire vision centered on context. As someone who recently built an interactive experience on exactly this theme, hearing Ali emphasize context as the number one priority was incredibly validating. AI does not just need to be smarter. It needs to understand the enterprise context around it.

A Moment I Will Never Forget at the Community Booth

After the keynote, I walked over to the Databricks Community Booth in Moscone South 2nd floor. The Community Champion showcase was running on the display, rotating through the profiles of Champions from around the world. I stood there checking to see if my name would come up.

Then something happened that genuinely surprised me. @MandyR walked up to me and said, "Are you checking for your name, Brahma?"

I was amazed. She recognized me without ever having met me in person before. We had a wonderful conversation about the Summit and the future of Data + AI solutions. Moments like this are what make this community so special. The people behind it genuinely know and care about the contributors.

Meeting Andrew Snare

At the Community Booth, I also met Andrew Snare. We had a great exchange about Data + AI, and I walked him through my Grocery Data Intelligence app, the architecture, and the use case. He said it was really impressive and a strong use case for retail. Getting that kind of feedback from a Databricks team member in person meant a lot.

A Surprise at the Free Edition Booth

Then came the highlight of my entire Summit experience.

I went to the Expo to introduce my GDI solution, and I was stunned to discover that the Databricks Free Edition team was using my app to show booth visitors the capabilities of Free Edition. They were demonstrating my Grocery Data Intelligence app to attendees to illustrate how Free Edition can build production-grade Data + AI applications.

I captured a video during their explanation. Seeing my own app being used by Databricks to showcase what is possible with their platform was a moment I will never forget. It started as a side project I shared on Reddit. Now it was on the floor of Data + AI Summit, helping others understand what they can build.

Meeting Viktoria Semaan

I also had the privilege of meeting Viktoria Semaan, Principal AI Evangelist at Databricks. We exchanged thoughts on the Data + AI space, adoption, Free Edition capabilities, and the product line. Her perspective on how AI is being adopted across enterprises was fascinating, and I appreciated her taking the time to connect.

Meeting Zach Wilson

I also met Zach Wilson, who is incredibly well known in the data engineering space through his YouTube content and DataExpert.io. It was great to connect with someone who has had such a big impact on how data engineers learn and grow.

Exploring the Expo

I spent time visiting several partner booths, understanding their offerings, and discussing the latest releases from this year's Summit. The breadth of innovation across the ecosystem is staggering.

Reflecting on Day 2

Day 2 reminded me why I love being part of this community. From Ali's vision of context-driven AI, to Mandy recognizing me at the booth, to seeing my own app used to demonstrate Free Edition capabilities, to meeting leaders and builders who are shaping the future of Data + AI, this was a day I will remember for a long time.

The journey from a Databricks official Reddit post to the Summit floor has been incredible. And it is all thanks to this community.

Grateful for this community and excited for what comes next.

Great recap! I joined virtually from Newfoundland, Canada and really enjoyed the sessions. Your post gave me good insights on what I missed by not being present there. As a student currently doing my internship, flying out to San Francisco wasn't really an option, so the virtual sessions were the only way to still be part of it.

Was most of the networking happening organically around the expo floor, or were there dedicated meetup sessions for it?

Definitely adding it to my list for when I'm further along in my career!
