When exporting a Databricks dashboard with maps to PDF, it is a known issue that the map background sometimes does not appear in the exported PDF file. This problem has been discussed in the Databricks community as of early 2025, and appears to be a commonly encountered limitation, particularly with the rendering process used for map visualizations in PDF exports.

Current Workarounds and Limitations

There does not seem to be an official fix directly within Databricks for this issue as of the latest reports.

General workarounds users employ include taking screenshots of the map visualizations and manually inserting them into their PDF reports for complete visual consistency.

The problem appears to be related to how layers (especially backgrounds from map tiles) are rendered during PDF export, and is typical with many online dashboarding platforms as well, not just Databricks.

Additional Notes and Recommendations

Always check for updates or release notes from Databricks, as this is a frequently reported pain point and may be addressed in future releases.

For vital map visualizations, exporting via an image or HTML format and then converting to PDF with third-party tools (print-to-PDF or browser-based export) often yields better results.

If this behavior is disruptive to your workflow, you may want to monitor Databricks release notes or contact Databricks support for the latest status and possible updates to this export limitation.
