topic Turn off data export functionality in Data Governance

Is there a current way to limit data exporting. Meaning not allowing users export data from a db objects to csv, excel, or copying results to clipboard. I see that currently exporting/downloading data can be done at workspace level, but I am proposing that Databricks build out the capability to limit this functionality at schema or even object level in a future release. Thanks

Hi @bigdatabase,

As of today, Databricks lets you control downloading notebook results only at the workspace level. As you pointed out, a workspace admin can disable downloading results from the notebook for all users in that workspace. However, there is no built‑in way today to scope this down to specific schemas, catalogs, tables, or views. Once a user has permission to query an object, the UI doesn’t currently distinguish between “view the results” vs “download/copy the results” for that specific object.

What you’re describing would require new product capabilities. If you’d like this prioritised, I’d recommend logging it as a feature request in the Databricks Ideas/Feature Requests portal (via your Databricks support portal) or via your Databricks account team. That way PMs can track it formally, and it can be weighed alongside other governance roadmap items.

Hope this helps.

If this answer resolves your question, could you mark it as “Accept as Solution”? That helps other users quickly find the correct fix.
