create button doesnt work

Hello everyone,

I am new to databricks, i created a new free azure account and when i tried to create a new workspace by clicking on the create button on the top right hand corner, nothing happens, i am sure this is some access issue, can someone shed some light on this?

Hi @Ganesh85 Welcome to the new world of databricks.

The image shows you are logged inside an active Databricks workspace specifically looking at the Repos user interface.

In Azure, "creating a databricks workspace" means creating the databricks environment (workspace) from the Azure Portal. But once you are inside Databricks - you don't need the Azure portal.

To start creating data pipelines, SQL or tables in databricks, you can use the global navigation tool in the Databricks side. Look at the left-hand navigation sidebar on your screen. At the very top of that sidebar, you will see a prominent + New button.

Click the + New button as it's the gateway to the features of Databricks:

Notebook: Select this to instantly create a new Python, SQL, Scala or R notebook to start writing code and analyzing data.
Job: You can use it to schedule notebooks to run automatically on a cadence.
Git Folder: You are generally in the Repos section, you can link GitHub or Azure DevOps for code version control

You can follow below to create new workspaces in Azure

Log into the Azure.
In the top search bar, type Azure Databricks and select it.
Click the + Create button on the top left.
Select your Subscription (e.g., Free Trial), create or select a Resource Group, give your workspace a Name, and choose a Region.
Select the Premium Pricing Tier
Click Review + create, and then Create.
Click Go to resource and hit the Launch Workspace button to enter Databricks after its deployed.

You can create Git folders (previously Repos) outside the Repos folder for simplified UI and organization. You can go to the home folder and create Git folder if you need to link GitHub or Azure DevOps.

Hi Balaji, thanks for your reply. like you said i tried to create a new notebook from the new button on the top left, but nothing shows up when i click on it.

Hi Ganesh,

Try a different browser or use a fresh browser profile to rule out extensions or policy issues. Please use the current version of any of the browser (Google Chrome / Firefox / Safari / Microsoft Edge). Using an unsupported browser might cause unexpected behavior. Try in Incognito window. Try to Clear cookies & browser data too.

As well as @balajij8 advice around making sure you are using a fresh browser. I'd recommend taking a look at these resources. They will help you to understand the overall UI.
