Yes, it is possible, but limited at the moment. This is being implemented and under private preview. There is an API called "Bring-your-own Lineage". You can test it but for that you would need to contact your account team to allow you to use the feature.

Can we import cataloguing information from other non Databricks workloads into unity catalog? Importing metadata information from Synapse, Redshift, ADF etc. into Unity catalog for end to end lineage and tracking?

Thanks for your question. You can use Lakehouse Federation to create a connection https://docs.databricks.com/en/query-federation/index.html to be able to use with UC.

Hello Alberto,

I am looking for a unified governance solution wherein unity catalog wiil contain information of databricks workloads by default and also contain metadata information of non databricks workloads to establish lineage.

For e.g We extract metadata information from Unity Catalog into Azure Purview to manage and track end to end lineage. Similarly can we do the opposite where unity catalog plays the role Purview and we extract information from Purview etc... into Unity Catalog.

Is it possible

or unity catalog can only push information into other governance tools?

Hi @ShankarM,

The integration to pull metadata information from Azure Purview into Unity Catalog is still under development and not yet fully implemented. Therefore, Unity Catalog cannot currently play the role of Purview by extracting information from Purview into Unity Catalog at the moment.

@Alberto_Umana- is it possible to add custom information about sources to a linegae in UC? For instance about a step before Databricks such as Data Factory copy activity, GCP Dataflow, or AWS Glue?
