How do I access the account console of Databricks in Azure?

To create a Unity metastore the docs refer me to the account console in Databricks, see:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/databricks/data-governance/unity-catalog/create-metastore

However when I go to manage account, I get redirected to select workspace screen (https://accounts.azuredatabricks.net/workspace-select). When I press further to a workspace I am back where I started. I am not able to reach the screen as seen in the docs. What am I doing wrong? Im an owner of the databricks service in Azure and admin as well....

Hi Stephansmit,

To access the accounts console, you should be the Account Admin in the Account. Otherwise, it will show you the workspaces to which you have access.

Best Regards,
Simran

  • You must be an Azure Databricks account admin.
  • The first Azure Databricks account admin must be an Azure Active Directory Global Administrator at the time that they first log in to the Azure Databricks account console. Upon first login, that user becomes an Azure Databricks account admin and no longer needs the Azure Active Directory Global Administrator role to access the Azure Databricks account. The first account admin can assign users in the Azure Active Directory tenant as additional account admins (who can themselves assign more account admins). Additional account admins do not require specific roles in Azure Active Directory.
  • Your Azure Databricks account must be on the Premium plan.

You need an Azure Global Admin to do the first login and then create databricks admins so they can login to the account console. For security purposes, only someone with the Azure AD Global Administrator role has permissions to assign the first account admin role. Once another user has the account admin role, the Azure AD Global Administrator no longer needs to be involved. The new account admin can remove the Global Administrator from the Azure Databricks account and assign other users the account admin role.
