Databricks is expanding Free Edition with five new additions - Genie Code, serverless GPUs, Lakebase, Agent Bricks, and Lakeflow Designer, giving learners and builders a broader free toolkit for end-to-end data and AI projects.

What’s new:

  • Genie Code: Ask Genie to analyze data, clean pipelines, or build visualizations, and it can generate, run, and refine the code for you.
  • Serverless GPUs: Free Edition now includes GPU access, subject to availability, for deeper AI work like training, fine-tuning, and inference.
  • Lakebase: Build with a fully managed Postgres-compatible database designed for data apps and AI agents, directly alongside the lakehouse.
  • Agent Bricks: Use pre-built components for tools, memory, orchestration, and evaluation to start building AI agents faster.
  • Lakeflow Designer: Create and understand data pipelines visually, with a more beginner-friendly way to design flows inside Databricks.

Free Edition has already been used by more than 500,000 people, and Databricks says it has provided more than $10M in free credits to support learning, experimentation, and real projects. Recent hackathon submissions showed that range in practice, with projects spanning AI, ML, data engineering, and analytics across builders from 16+ countries.
