Delta Live Tables Permissions

RobsonNLPT
Contributor II

Hi all

I'm the owner of delta live tables pipelines but I don't see the option described on documentation to grant permissions for different users. The options available are "settings" and "delete"

  1. In the sidebar, click Delta Live Tables.

  2. Select the name of a pipeline.

  3. Click the (three vertical points)

    , and select Permissions

  4. In Permissions Settings, select the Select User, Group or Service Principal… drop-down menu and then select a user, group, or service principal.

  5. Select a permission from the permission drop-down menu.

  6. Click Add.

  7. Click Save.

The underlying cause of this issue is the configuration setting for 'Clusters, Pools, Jobs Access Control' being disabled in the workspace. This setting controls whether users can manage permissions for clusters, pools, jobs and other objects within the workspace. When disabled, it prevents users from modifying permissions causing the observed issue.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Databricks account and navigate to the Admin Console.
  2. Select the workspace where the issue is occurring (in this case, the QA workspace).
  3. Click on the 'Access Control' tab.
  4. Locate the 'Clusters, Pools, Jobs Access Control' option and enable it by checking the box next to it.
  5. Save the changes and refresh the workspace.

After enabling the 'Clusters, Pools, Jobs Access Control' option, users should be able to see the 'Permissions' option on resources such as Pipelines, Clusters, Jobs, etc. They can then manage permissions as needed, including adding 'Can View' permissions to a group on a Pipeline.

IMPORTANT: Once the option ‘Clusters, Pools, Jobs Access control’ is enabled it will disappear from the Settings page and cannot be longer disabled, this is mentioned in: Release Notes January 2024

Hi.

Our workspaces are premium from the beginning so I don't see that access control tab

Hi. I am the account admin. Our workspaces are premium from the beginning so I do not see that access control tab.

Can you go on the Workspace and go to settings > Security > Do you see the option Clusters, Pools, Jobs Access Control?

Also are you able to see the permissions tab to any other object as clusters for example?

I have permissions for jobs,  clusters but not in tabs.

Workspace settings security doesn't have that option

Got it, so issue might be different, can you share with me an screenshot on how it looks like right now in the pipeline when you click on the vertical dots?

Is this happening with any pipeline?

Hi. I have attached on my first post.

Hello @Walter_C , I am having similar issue than @RobsonNLPT . I am account administrator using Premium Workspace, and I can not longer see the permissions in the Kebab menu of DLTs pipelines.

Ah ok sorry, the permissions tab is no longer available in that view but if you click on the pipeline name directly and access to it on the 3 dots you should see the permissions there, can you confirm?

Yes. It works. Thank you!

@Walter_CI just saw the new share tab. Indeed, pretty new feature. Thank you!

@Walter_C  I have two workspaces from different regions. In one, permissions are accessed through the three dots menu, while in the other, they're found in the Share tab. I'm not sure why it's different, but now permissions settings works for both. Thanks!

Are both workspaces within the same region or different one? It is great to hear that issue is now resolved for both
