Databricks platform release notes

Execute SQL cells in the notebook in parallel

You can now run SQL cells in Databricks notebooks in parallel while attached to an interactive cluster. See Execute SQL cells in parallel.

SQL admin console and workspace admin console combined

The SQL admin console has been combined with the general admin console to create a unified experience for admin users. All SQL admin settings are now accessed from the admin console.

Workspace files are now in Public Preview

You can now work with non-notebook files in Databricks. Workspaces files are enabled by default in all workspaces. See What are workspace files?.

New Data Explorer availability

A new version of Data Explorer is now available in all workspaces that use a supported version of Databricks Runtime 7.3 or later.

The features listed in this section are independent of the SQL Warehouse compute versions described in the Channels section of the release notes.

New feature:

  • The Databricks SQL Statement Execution API is now available in Public Preview. Statement Execution provides endpoints that are running SQL statements on a Databricks SQL warehouse. It can also check the status, fetch results, and cancel a running SQL statement.

Improvement:

  • The SQL admin console has been combined with the general admin console to create a unified experience for admin users. All SQL admin settings are now accessed from the admin console.
  • Alert destinations are now called notification destinations.

Fixes:

  • Tables no longer display two scrollbars.
  • Blank widget titles no longer get overwritten on dashboards.
