Manage budgets and cost controls for Genie

In the article Manage budgets and cost controls for Genie at Manage budgets and cost controls for Genie - Azure Databricks | Microsoft Learn it mentions setting the resource type of Unity AI gateway from the dropdown. However when using Account Console no such field is visible to us.

Am I missing something?

Hi @AndyRoyle,

Per the public docs, the expected flow is that once that preview is enabled, you go to the Budgets page in Account Console, and the budget definition should show a Resource types dropdown where you can choose Unity AI Gateway. You can see that called out both in the Genie budget guide and in the more general Create and monitor budgets documentation.

So if you already have the exact Unity AI Gateway Budget preview enabled and still do not see the Resource types field, that does not match the documented budget flow. In that case, I would treat it as an account-side enablement or rollout issue rather than a problem with system.billing.usage, and I would recommend opening a support case with screenshots from Account Console โ†’ Usage โ†’ Budgets โ†’ Create budget.

For completeness, the public Unity AI Gateway budgets documentation also lists the same prerequisite. Unity AI Gateway enabled, billable usage system tables enabled, and the Unity AI Gateway Budget Public Preview enabled. If all three are already confirmed and the field is still missing, support is probably the right next step.

If this answer resolves your question, could you mark it as โ€œAccept as Solutionโ€? That helps other users quickly find the correct fix.

Hi

It looks like there are some requirements to check first:

  • Unity AI Gateway is enabled for your account. <- if you're enterprise, Beta previews are Off by default. An account admin can toggle this on in the account console.
  • The billable usage system table needs to be enabled for your account. (find out more in first link below)
  • The Unity AI Gateway Budget Public Preview needs to be enabled in the account console.

Hope this helps.

I can confirm that Unity AI Gateway is enabled for our account, system.billing.usage table is enabled, and the Unity Catalog AI Gateway Public Preview is also enabled, but still the field is not available

You must be an account admin & Unity AI Gateway Budget Public Preview must be enabled in the account console.
