After the 14-day free trial of Databricks on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), your account will transition depending on whether you have provided billing information or not. Here are the key outcomes:

  1. Transition to Paid Subscription: If you have provided billing information during the trial, your account will automatically convert to a pay-as-you-go subscription once the trial ends. This means you will start incurring charges based on your usage, measured in Databricks Units (DBUs), and any associated Google Cloud costs
  2. Account and Workspace Access: If you do not upgrade to a paid plan by adding billing information, access to your Databricks workspaces, notebooks, and data will be restricted. Databricks typically deletes any customer content within workspaces tied to the subscription within 30 days of cancellation or non-renewal
  3. Resource Management: During the trial, Databricks creates resources such as Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) clusters for running workloads. If you do not upgrade, these resources are stopped at the end of the trial period to prevent additional charges
  4. Cancellation: To avoid transitioning to a paid plan, you must cancel your subscription before the trial ends. This involves terminating all compute resources and removing any payment methods from your account. Once canceled, all workspaces and associated data will be deleted, which is irreversible

To continue using Databricks after the trial with minimal disruption, it's advisable to decide on a subscription plan and set up billing before the trial concludes.
