Question: I cannot run SparkML on Free Edition

Answer:

In order to run SparkML on Free Edition, you may need to update your Free Edition environment to version 4 (or later when available). Please see instructions below:

1. Open the environment settings tab, using the slider icon on the far right settings bar of the notebook interface

2. Change the environment version to 4 (or later if/when available)

3. Click "Apply"

4. Try to reconnect to serverless compute

Hey @Jenni, not sure where you're getting stuck, but you can train machine learning models in the free edition. I suggest starting with the "Train and Deploy an ML Model" tutorial.

You can access it here: https://docs.databricks.com/aws/en/getting-started/

I did it in my Free Workspace  and it worked.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers, Louis.

Hey @BigRoux - many thanks for the great link which I am sure our community will find very useful!

(Some users were having issues getting SparkML to run on Free Edition as they first needed to update their environment version after which all was good).

Hi @szymon_dybczak THANKS so much - really appreciated it! As you said, hopefully it will help as we are finding that updating the environment version can be a first step to troubleshooting.
