Announcement | Genie One MCP: Give any AI Agent the Right Business Context

General-purpose AI assistants can access data, but access alone is not business understanding. To answer questions reliably, an agent needs approved definitions, trusted relationships, authoritative sources, and permission-aware access. Genie One MCP brings that governed context to MCP-compatible assistants and coding agents.

Key highlights

Define business meaning once: Genie Ontology combines governed semantic assets with context inferred from trusted tables, queries, dashboards, notebooks, and Genie Agents. Genie can resolve business terms, metric definitions, relationships, and source authority instead of asking every client to infer them from raw tables.
Bring Genie into the tools teams already use: MCP clients such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other compatible assistants can send natural-language questions to Genie One. Genie searches permitted enterprise data, generates and runs SQL, and returns grounded answers with links to Databricks sources.
Keep permissions attached to the user: Unity Catalog permissions are enforced on every request. On-behalf-of user authentication is recommended when answers should reflect each person’s access, so two users can ask the same question and receive appropriately scoped results.
Return more than text: Clients that support MCP Apps can render progress, visualizations, results, and Genie Ontology citations in an interactive view. Clients without MCP Apps support continue to receive text responses.
Govern the integration centrally: The current Genie One MCP Service, is governed through Unity Gateway. Unity Catalog grants control who can invoke it, service policies can govern tool calls, and invocations are recorded for usage and audit.
Scope specialized use cases when needed: If a workflow maps to one curated domain, use the Genie Agent MCP server to query a single read-only Genie Agent with its own instructions, trusted SQL, and focused data context.

Real-time detection can be really useful for gaming communities where toxic messages can spread quickly. Keeping chat data and moderation in one place could make it easier to deal with problems as they happen. There are also some useful gaming resources out there for developers working on community features.

Grupo Panvel is one of Brazil’s largest pharmacy chains, with hundreds of stores, a growing digital operation and a wide range of sales and customer data. When leaders asked questions that fell outside existing dashboards, they had to file requests with the BI team and wait hours or days for answers. With Genie One integrated with Genie Agents, leaders can now ask questions in natural language and explore governed answers in minutes.

Key highlights:

90% faster analysis: Margin and performance analysis time dropped by at least 90% across multiple business areas.
8+ years of historical sales data: Users expanded beyond the standard three-year window within the same conversation.
1,500+ natural-language questions answered: Pilot users generated a level of exploration the previous ticket-based model could not support.
From dashboards to dialogue: Managers can ask follow-up questions, move from macro to micro analysis and receive answers without requesting a new report.
Governed and transparent: Genie respects access rules defined in Unity Catalog and shows the applied filters and underlying query so users can validate the result.
Embedded in existing workflows: Grupo Panvel integrated Genie through an iframe in its internal platform and is exploring scheduled Genie outputs as a more adaptable alternative to fixed recurring reports.

Capital-markets firms are under pressure from growing data volumes, shorter settlement timelines, rising expectations for real-time insight, and AI initiatives moving from pilots into production. The durable advantage is not a model in isolation, it is connecting research, trading, risk, operations, and compliance on reliable, governed data.

In this Q&A, Andrea DeSosa, Global Head of Capital Markets GTM at Databricks, shares a practical approach to modernizing the trade lifecycle around the decisions that matter most.

Key highlights

Start with high-value decisions: Ask where execution cost is diverging from expectations, how a rate or volatility shock could affect exposures, or which workflows have the highest exception and settlement-fail rates. The questions help define the data foundation needed to answer them.
Connect the lifecycle’s critical data: Bring together orders, executions, positions, market and reference data, research, risk outputs, client information, settlement status, collateral, funding, and operational exceptions instead of creating another isolated workflow.
Use AI where governed context matters: AI can help investigate exceptions, analyze execution quality, synthesize research, and surface potential surveillance issues when proprietary data is discoverable, reliable, permissioned, and traceable.
Make auditability part of the architecture: Production workflows need visibility into data quality, entitlements, lineage, model and agent evaluation, decision records, and the investigation of exceptions, not just a model that produces an answer.
Modernize incrementally: Firms do not need to replace every system at once. Start with one measurable workflow, establish reusable governed data and controls, prove the outcome, and expand across the lifecycle.
