Power BI is a very mature product and the current market leader. For simple reports  AI/BI Dashboards will be perfectly suitable. But for now if you require something more complex Power BI is a better choice. I suppose that in the future Databricks Dashboards will be a solid alternative, but it is too early for now.

Is there any material that you could point me towards, to compare AI/BI with PowerBI? It would appear that NLP capabilities that AI/BI offers don't exist straight out of the box in PowerBI.

Whether Databricks AI/BI can fully replace Power BI depends on your organization's use case, data ecosystem, user expertise, and priorities (e.g., cost, integration, or advanced BI needs). Power BI is a mature, standalone BI tool from Microsoft, excelling in self-service reporting, rich visualizations, and seamless integration with Microsoft products like Excel, Azure, and Teams. It supports complex data modeling (e.g., DAX for calculations), paginated reports, and broad connectivity to hundreds of sources. Now with Fabric Integration it have AI capabilities too.

Databricks AI/BI, however, is not a direct competitor—it's an embedded BI solution optimized for organizations already using Databricks for data engineering, ML, and analytics. It shines in unified data platforms where governance, scalability, and AI-driven insights are key, but it may not yet match Power BI's depth in standalone BI workflows.
