Disable auto-scroll on Databricks Genie Code

humphriesdt

Hello,

I frequently use Genie Code when developing, particularly to ask Genie questions about certain lines or sections of code. The responses are great, but because they are often long, the chat auto-scrolls while text is being generated. Is there a way to disable this? I would like to be able to read the generated text while more is being created, and then scroll down when I'm ready to read, instead of Genie auto-scrolling away parts of text I'm not finished reading.

Thank you!!

Hi @humphriesdt,

I don't think there's an option to turn off auto-scroll in Genie Code. You can open the Genie Code settings from the More menu in the chat pane header. They let you change the panel view (Docked or Side pane), set the serverless usage policy, and choose how Genie Code requests approval before using a tool. None of them controls scrolling. The Navigate Genie Code page lists everything that's available.

As a workaround, try switching panel views or opening Genie Code in full-page view. A bigger reading area fits more of the response on screen, so less of it scrolls out of view while it's being written. Full page Genie Code also lets you switch between chats while they keep running in the background, so you can let a long answer finish and then read it from the top at your own pace.

You can also ask for shorter answers. For example, ask Genie Code to summarise first and then expand on a specific section when you're ready. This works well when you're asking about particular lines or blocks of code.

I'd also suggest sending this as a feature request through the feedback option in your workspace. Requests like a "pause auto-scroll while reading" toggle are perhaps easier to prioritise when they come straight from users who need them.
