Unable to user serverless GPU

I am currently using a premium plan, it was set up as a managed databricks account (no attached cloud account). I do have a credit card attached to the account, so it does not say "free trial".

When I try to use a serverless GPU, I get the error "An error occurred while trying to attach serverless compute. Please try again or contact support.".

I do not have a support contract, so it appears this is the best option. Is it possible to enable this for my account? if I can't access GPUs, then I will just go back to my old environment instead of databricks.

Thanks for the response, that is the same error that I am getting but according to the documentation I should have access.

I am on a premium tier (credit card entered) workspace, on AWS in the us-east-2 region.

According to documentation for AWS serverless availability (https://docs.databricks.com/aws/en/resources/feature-region-support), I should be able to access serverless GPUs with my account. It appears to be an account entitlement setting, not an account capability.

Hi @ryanforsythe8,

You're right that the region isn't the problem. Serverless GPU compute now goes by AI Runtime in the docs, and the availability table lists it as available in the Americas Geo, so us-east-2 is covered.

What I'd look at instead is how the account was set up. A Databricks-managed account with no cloud account of your own sounds like express setup, and the express setup docs have this note: "Some trial limitations may continue to apply even after you upgrade your account." Adding the card upgrades the account, but the workspace that was created during the trial can keep some of its restrictions.

The same page says that once you've upgraded, you can create additional workspaces in the account. So the quickest test is:

  1. In the account console, create a new workspace in us-east-2.
  2. Open a notebook there and attach serverless GPU compute. An A10 is enough for a quick test.

If it attaches in the new workspace, it was a leftover trial restriction on the original one. If it fails there too, it's on the account side and needs someone from Databricks to look at it, so I'd post the result here to keep the thread moving.

Cheers,
Suranga
