Hub Star Modeling 2.0 for Medalion Architecture

Shahram
New Contributor II

๐Ÿš€ Excited to share my latest publication on arXiv!
โ€œHub Star Modeling 2.0 for Medallion Architectureโ€
๐Ÿ”— https://arxiv.org/abs/2504.08788

This new version builds on the original Hub Star Modeling approach, published last year, and now tailored for the Medallion Architecture โ€” a widely adopted standard for modern data lakehouses.

While the bronze and gold layers are generally well understood, the silver layer still raises several open questions, such as:
โ€ข Should we use common object categories with special naming conventions?
โ€ข System-generated keys vs. computed keys โ€” and should we hash the computed ones?
โ€ข Should we maintain version history in both bronze and silver layers?

This paper proposes common terminology and design patterns to help bring more clarity and consistency to silver layer modeling.

๐Ÿง  Iโ€™d love to hear your thoughts! Feel free to share feedback or reach out โ€” always happy to chat data modeling and architecture.
