⚽ Data + AI Summit 2026. Databricks. Genie. Football. Charity.
Not a combination I expected to write about, but here we are.
As many of you may know, next week I'll be in San Francisco for #DAIS2026 as part of the Databricks MVP community. Between keynotes, sessions, Braindates, customer meetings, and trying very hard not to leak any MVP secrets, it's going to be a busy week.
At the same time, another global event is capturing people's attention: football.
Now, as a proud Romanian, I should probably know more about football than I do. Unfortunately, my expertise stops somewhere around Beckham, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Messi. 😅
What I do know is that people love football almost as much as we love Databricks.
So the team at Unifeye decided to have a bit of fun and build something that combines both.
Using Databricks Apps and Genie, we've created a World Cup Sweepstake experience where, for a £5 donation to Greenhouse Sports, you'll be assigned a team and can ask questions such as:
⚽ How lucky (or unlucky) was my team allocation?
⚽ What's my path to the final?
⚽ Who do I face if I win the next round?
⚽ Which team has the easiest route to lifting the trophy?
⚽ What are my chances of winning the tournament?
More importantly, every penny goes to a fantastic cause.
Greenhouse Sports uses sport and mentoring to help young people develop confidence, resilience, and life skills that extend far beyond the playing field.

For me, this is what the Databricks community is all about. Not just building cool technology, but using technology to engage people, create conversations, and support meaningful causes.
