Genie Code inline execution is very slow

lennonantonyy

Hi everyone,

Iโ€™ve noticed that running inline code in Genie Code has been taking a long time, even for simple tasks.

The only workaround I found so far was to explicitly instruct Genie to create notebooks in my personal folder and run the code there instead of running it inline.

Is anyone else seeing the same issue? What are you doing to work around it?

Hi @lennonantonyy,

Thanks for raising this. Yes, I've seen similar reports from others as well.

A few people have run into notebook slowness/browser memory pressure when Genie Code is open, including lag while typing and generally poorer performance in the inline experience. The most reliable workaround Iโ€™ve seen so far is exactly what you described. Use the Genie Code side panel/Agent mode or have it work in a notebook rather than relying on the inline in-cell flow. Internally, the inline experience is still being unified with the more capable side-panel agent, and even the docs note (see the snapshot below) that performance can be better in the pane than in a notebook cell.

It would also be useful to know whether youโ€™re on Free Edition or a paid workspace, just in case what youโ€™re seeing is related to workspace limits or entitlement differences rather than the inline UX itself.

If this answer resolves your question, could you mark it as โ€œAccept as Solutionโ€? That helps other users quickly find the correct fix.
