Azure Databricks - Databricks AI Assistant missing on Azure Student Subscription?

I am going through a course learning Azure Databricks and I had created a new Azure Databricks Workspace. I am the owner of the subscription and created everything so I assume I should have full admin rights.

The following is my set up

-Azure Student Subscription ($100USD credit)

-Pricing Tier: Premium (+ Role-based access controls)

-Canada East

After creating my workspace I tried to start up a new notebook and I noticed on the left hand side of the notebook window under the Table of Contents/Workspace/Catalog I do NOT see the "Databricks AI Code Assistant". Also when I open a new code block I do not see the code assist either.

databricks.jpgAt my workplace we DO have the code assistant on and I cant see a difference in terms of settings between my work and my personal learning workspace.

This is a link to the Databricks AI code assistant specifically: https://www.databricks.com/product/databricks-assistant

Does the Azure Student Subscription allow use of the "Databricks AI Code Assistant"? Are there any restrictions?

I keep seeing literature that I need to enable this AI Code assistant (even though it should be enabled by default) - I went through the settings and it looks like its all enabled? Not sure what or if I am doing anything wrong or is this expected?

@rodneyc8063

According to Azure’s documentation, it states:

Tip:
Admins: If you’re unable to enable Databricks Assistant, you might need to disable the "Enforce data processing within workspace Geography for Designated Services" setting. See “For an account: Disable or enable Databricks Assistant features.”
Azure Documentation

Have you tried this solution as well?

Hi @Takuya-Omi

I did try that solution as well, thank you for pointing that out.

I unfortunately had to re-create my workspace and used EAST US instead of using Canada East then the AI solution worked.

In my Canada East workspace I also noticed the following

So in a nutshell despite disabling the geographic restrictions I was still not able to get the AI assistant working. I literally had to re-create the workspace in a new region.
