I'm encountering an 'Invalid credentials' error (Session ID: 4601-b5a6-0daf792752a2, Region: us) when connecting Power BI to an Azure Databricks SQL Warehouse using an SPN. The SPN has CAN MANAGE access at SQL warehouse, admin rights at account and workspace levels, and schema privileges (USE CATALOG, USE SCHEMA, READ VOLUME, EXECUTE, SELECT). Credentials were verified as correct, but the issue persists. Could this be due to an expired SPN token or a regional authentication service issue? Any troubleshooting steps or configuration checks would be greatly appreciated!

Can you please confirm whether you checked SPN and it has validity?

Hello Sai,

Can you try making a connection using PAT tokens? between I am create a repo to chekc the issue. PAT tokens are highly recommeneded and easiest way to use.

Can you also cut a ticket with Azure? Because the Azure support engineer will have a better chance to look into the issue. cut a ticket with azure databricks the support engineer from MSFT will look into this else he will cut a collab with power bI team internally to check the issue. sometimes networking is also reposible, not sure what network setup you have.

If you could explain me what kind of network issues we I can check from my end and have a word with you. This is the critical issue we are facing.

Hello sai, sorry for the experience  😞

I usually available at desk during EMEA time zone. Apologies for the delay.

Can you please try this?

In "Advanced settings" of the data source within the gateway configuration and set the "Connection Encryption setting for this data source" setting to "Encrypted".  By default, a checkbox was set that allowed the gateway to choose the connection encryption setting - this needed to be overridden.

Once the gateway setting was changed (and basic username/password credentials re-entered) It will able to successfully create/execute the dataflow query.
