Databricks is expanding Genie Code at Data + AI Summit 2026 with a new full-page workspace for longer-running, multi-step data and ML work. The update is designed to help teams manage more complex development flows across notebooks, files, pipelines, and other Databricks assets from one place.

Key highlights

  • A new full-page command center: Full-page Genie Code gives teams a dedicated workspace to start tasks, track progress, and review outputs more easily than in a smaller side panel.
  • Better support for multi-threaded work: Users can run multiple threads in parallel, switch between them while work continues in the background, and return when results are ready.
  • Easier customization: Skills, instructions, and MCP servers are surfaced more clearly, making it easier for teams to guide Genie Code with their own standards, tools, and workspace context.
  • A step toward longer-running automation: Databricks is also extending the Genie family into operations with Genie ZeroOps, a background agent that monitors production data and AI assets, investigates issues, and prepares fixes for review.
  • Built for governed platform work: Because Genie ZeroOps runs inside Databricks, it can use observability, lineage, and sandbox validation while staying under Unity Catalog governance and approval controls.
