Job title: Senior Data and AI Engineer
Company: NEXT
Community nickname: @ShamenParis  •  He/Him

Let’s get to know him a little better.

The Journey

🎤  Can you provide a brief overview of your career journey leading up to your current role?

💬  I have nearly nine years of professional experience focusing on cloud-native data architectures, Lakehouse systems, and Generative AI integrations. I’ve evolved from building foundational data pipelines to designing complex, event-driven streaming architectures and artificial intelligence agent harnesses.

🎤  What do you enjoy most about your current job or role?

💬  I love the challenge of architecting robust platforms using Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog. I also deeply enjoy creating AI agent frameworks with LangGraph and Databricks Foundation Model APIs, and sharing these architecture patterns on my YouTube channel and Medium blog.

🎤  If you had to describe yourself using three words, what would they be? How do you think your coworkers would describe you?

💬  Innovative, analytical, and collaborative. How my coworkers would describe me: A dedicated and resourceful problem-solver.

🎤  Have you had any mentors or significant influences in your professional life? If so, could you tell us about them?

💬  My most significant influences have been the prominent voices within the open-source data engineering space and the broader Databricks community. Engaging with fellow developers and learning from the architectures shared by other Databricks MVPs has profoundly shaped my approach to building Lakehouse systems.

On Databricks

🎤  When and why did you first start using Databricks?

💬  I first started using Databricks more than five years ago. At the time, I needed a unified platform capable of handling massive-scale data engineering – like event-driven Change Data Capture pipelines – while seamlessly integrating advanced AI and machine learning workloads.

🎤  Are there any Databricks features that you particularly enjoy or find indispensable in your work?

💬  Databricks Asset Bundles (DABs), Unity Catalog, and Genie Code. I recently built open-source repositories for DABs playbooks and Genie Code SQL conversions, so they are incredibly central to my daily work.

🎤  Is there a Databricks feature you wish existed or would like to see in future updates?

💬  Create semantic models similar to PowerBI using diagrams.

🎤  When did you join the Databricks Community, and what motivated you to do so?

💬  I joined on May 22, 2026. My main motivation was to share my knowledge and experience with Apache Spark and Databricks with others, and to help fellow practitioners solve their data problems.

🎤  What aspects of the Databricks Community do you find most valuable or enjoyable?

💬  The incredible depth of knowledge shared by peers, the collaborative spirit around problem-solving, and the robust support system within the MVP program. (Currently I’m recognized as Databricks MVP)

Beyond Work

🎤  Outside of work, what is your favourite hobby or pastime?

💬  I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids, exploring Marvel comic book lore – especially analyzing power scaling for characters like Legion and Franklin Richards – and combining my language practice with deep tech studies.

🎤  Where do you envision yourself professionally in the next three years?

💬  I envision myself leading enterprise adoptions of agentic AI frameworks within Lakehouse architectures, continuing to grow my technical content platforms, and expanding my contributions as a Databricks MVP.
