Brad

Hi team,

Is there a way to embed plotly dash directly inside Databricks notebook?

Thanks

Hey Brad.

There is actually ... via a licensed library called databricks-dash which works similar to how jupyter-dash (and now dash itself) works in a jupyter notebook. The library is distributed as part of Plotly's Dash Enterprise. It's a bit of an anti-pattern, but some of our enterprise customers do take advantage of it.

Most Dash app integrations w Databricks today leverage the Databricks Python SQL Connector.  More technical details are available via: https://dash.plotly.com/dash-with-databricks-sql and wide range of use cases and other information available via https://plotly.com/dash/databricks-integration/

Here's a(n admittedly dated) video with details of the databricks-dask workflow:

I'd be keen to learn more about your specific use case.

Thanks Dave.

Is it possible to embed Dash to Databricks notebook cell result directly? Visualization in Databricks notebook can be published to dashboards. We expect to use Dash inside the Databricks notebook and publish it so inside dashboard people can use dash result. I saw ipywidgets+plotly, but ipywidgets cannot be published.

Hi @Brad -

Unfortunately, it's not possible today to embed Dash in a Databricks notebook cell without our Enterprise-level databricks-dash library. Longer term, we are working towards Dash natively working within Databricks notebooks, but that timeline is TBD.

Dave (previously in this thread) and I work with many Databricks customers who are looking into problems like this -- would you be open to a 30 minute chat so we can help talk you through some alternatives.

Thanks. I work in PST time. Can you please share some time slots? Looking forward to talking with you soon...
