DBR version 10.4 impact

ShankarM

hi,

For one of our projects which is in production we are using DBR 10.4 for which EOL was Mar 18th, 2025.

I wanted to know will there any impact to existing workloads which are running in production. Is yes then can you let me know the impact and risks associated.

Can we get extended support till we plan for an upgrade?

Thanks

Hey @ShankarM ,

Following the documentation

After the EOL date:

  • No more security patches, performance improvements, or bug fixes are provided.

  • Existing jobs and clusters will continue to runbut "Databricks reserves the right to completely remove a runtime version at any time after its support ends โ€” without prior notice"

This means that your production workloads could stop functioning unexpectedly if the runtime is deprecated from the platform.

Extended Support? Currently, Databricks does not provide extended support options beyond the official EOL date.

So It would be better if you try to migrate to latest LTS to avoid last min huddles

Hope this helps ๐Ÿ™‚

hi,

Thanks for your reply. Can you pl share the databricks link which provides the date for EOL for DBR version 10.4. I the link which you have shared has EOS date but EOL date is not mentioned.

Hello @ShankarM

Actually, there is no official End of Life (EoL) date provided by Databricks. If you check the documentation I referenced in my previous message, EoL is the next phase after End of Support (EoS), but Databricks does not announce a specific date when a Runtime will be fully retired.

For example, if you look at this link:

Databricks Runtime 10.4 LTS - Maintenance Updates,
Youโ€™ll see that the last update was on November 29, 2023
You can confirm that 10.4 LTS is already marked as End of Support (EoS). This means Databricks can retire it at any moment without prior notice, moving it directly to EoL.

In my opinion, Databricks Runtime 10.4 LTS (currently still available) is using:

If youโ€™re planning a migration, Iโ€™d recommend moving to Databricks Runtime 11.3 LTS, which is running:

Itโ€™s not a huge jump between versions, and Databricks 11.3 LTS is supported until October 19, 2025, giving you plenty of time to plan and execute the migration safely.

Hope this helps, ๐Ÿ™‚
