Please bring back "Right Click > Clone" functionality within Databricks Repos!

After this was removed, the best way to replicate this functionality was to:

  1. Export the file in .dbc format
  2. Import the .dbc file back in. New file has a suffix of " (1)"

As of an update on 2022-02-03, the best way to replicate this initial functionality is to:

  1. Export the file in .dbc format
  2. Rename the file of interest. If you attempt to import back in, you will experience an error due to same file name.
  3. Import the downloaded .dbc file

Over time the process of cloning a file has become more complex. As this is fairly simple feature, I would appreciate it if you brought back the initial clone functionality.

I can select 'clone' by right-click on a notebook in Repos, so it is not removed.

I am on Azure so maybe that matters.

Interesting. I'm also working out of a .azuredatabricks.net location, so I would expect to see the same functionality. I do see the "clone" when I right-click a file/folder in Workspace, but still not in Repos.

do you have permission to work in the repos folders?

I can clone folders and notebooks within repos.

I do have permissions, as that's the primary area where I do my work. But you bring up a good point, I'll reach out to someone who has some higher permissions than me and see if it's something we'd need to check off in "user settings" or intentionally start up.

Hi @Kaniz Fatmaโ€‹ . I did reach out to someone with higher databricks permissions than myself. They were unable to find anything in "user settings" that fixes this.

I am working through my organization's account.

Hello! Just to update the group on this question, the clone right-click functionality is working again in Repos for me ๐Ÿ™‚ I believe this fix came with a new databricks upgrade on 2022-04-20 / 2022-04-21
