whitelist for outbound network access?

fehrin1

Hi all,

It is documented, that the free edition has limitations as to which external hosts and domains can be accessed.

Is there a known (white) list of hosts/domains which can be accessed?

As an example i can access pypi.org but not wikipedia.org.

There isn’t a published “whitelist” you can view for Free Edition. Free Edition intentionally restricts outbound internet access to a limited set of trusted /essential domains, and general sites like wikipedia.org are blocked.

Hi @fehrin1 ,

One explanation could be that the whitelist of allowed domains differs between regions. So in the EU, Wikipedia is allowed, but in the US region it is blocked.
And you won't find a list of allowed domains because such a list does not exist. You need to either accept that some domain won't be available in Free Edition or use Premium edition.

+1 to @pradeep_singh 's answer - "outbound internet access is restricted to a limited set of trusted domains." Source and other limitations of the free edition: https://docs.databricks.com/aws/en/getting-started/free-edition-limitations

So why is wikipedia.org accessible with a free edition hosted in eu-west-1 (-> @szymon_dybczak), but not with a free edition hosted in us-east-2 (-> me)?
