How To Remove Extra DataBricks Free Edition Account

billyboy

Accidently made an extra DataBricks Free edition account/workspace on the same email while messing with Legacy edition login, is there a way to delete one of these? The old community edition had a "Delete Account" button but can't seem to find that for the Free Edition.  Also, will DBFS be enabled on the Free edition anytime or is that only for Community and Paid accounts.

Hello @billyboy!

Currently, no self-serve option exists to delete a free edition account. You may try contacting help@databricks.com for assistance with removing the account.

Regarding DBFS, there is no official update on enabling full access in the Free Edition. Also, DBFS is now considered a legacy approach, and using Unity Catalog Volumes for storing and accessing data going forward is recommended.

Hello Billyboy,

I canโ€™t seem to find the option either, but one of the limitations of the Free Edition is:
โ€œDatabricks may delete Free Edition accounts that are inactive for a prolonged period.โ€

So, you could simply avoid logging into that account for a while, and it should get deleted ๐Ÿ˜Š.

FYI: Existing users are encouraged to try out and use the Free Edition. Access to legacy Community Edition accounts will remain available for the rest of this year.
As for DBFS, the recommended approach is to use UC Volumes for uploading any files you need, instead of relying on DBFS.

Best, Ilir
