How to get rid of a pesky gen AI feature in the editor ?

Hi,

The editor interface has that gen AI feature following empty lines with a cursor. I find that very distracting and irritating. More over, once a line is deleted that unsolicited thing is interfering with code (snapshots included).

How to get rid of it?

Summary:

  1. I was not able to solve the UI/UX artifact on my own (on user side)
  2. The UI/UX issue was resolved somewhere on Databricks side. The UI/AX artifact is no longer interfering with work.

Hi @art1 ,

To disable it just follow below steps:

1. Click your username in the top bar of the Databricks workspace > Settings.

2. In the left pane under Workspace admin, click the Advanced tab.

3. To disable Assistant, click the toggle Off for AI-powered AI assistive features.

Hi

It means it has to be done by the workspace admins and I can not disable on my personal space. It is still a great lead - thank you.

I'm also having problems with this, it is extremely distracting to have text inserting appearing in my code as I work. I have the same permission problem. Is there a way to disable this for an individual user?

Hi,

To my best knowledge Databricks decided not to provide individual users with option to solve it. Only your workspace admin can do it as blanket policy for all workspace.

As per my personal impression, the a UI designers took blunt approach disregarding user choices here and potentially - our productivity. An I am personally very unhappy about this disruptive UI gimmick.

To sum it up. Official documentation is saying following:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/databricks/notebooks/use-databricks-assistant#enable-or-disa...

For an account: Disable or enable Databricks Assistant features

Azure AI-powered Databricks Assistant features are enabled by default. However, account admins can disable Azure AI-powered Assistant features for all workspaces within an account. Account admins can also enforce enabling Databricks Assistant for the entire account.

For a workspace: Disable or enable Assistant features

If your account admin enables Assistant, it is enabled by default in workspaces. Unless the account admin chose to enforce the setting, workspace admins can disable it for their workspaces.

So, currently there is no way to disable it only for specific user.

Just to clarify: the issue here is not the feature itself - right tools at right time for right task. The problem is the poor UI/UX design of that feature which directly disrupts productivity when that feature is not required or needed.
