Unable to Subscribe to the 14 day free trial

Hi Team,

I recently spun up a Databricks (DBX) instance on GCP and added my billing information. While GCP is working as expected, I am encountering an issue when attempting to subscribe to the DBX 14-day free trial.

The system blocks the subscription and displays the following error message:

"Action Required: Choose Different Billing Account. This product cannot be purchased using a billing account currently associated with a free trial. Please select a different billing account to proceed or upgrade to a paid account."

Could someone please help me resolve this issue? Thank you.

Hi @sakkapeddi,

Thanks for sharing the exact error message. What this usually means is that the Google Cloud billing account you selected is already associated with an existing Databricks Marketplace subscription flow, so Databricks can’t start a new 14-day trial on that same billing account. Databricks on GCP is tied to a Google Cloud billing account, and only one Databricks account can be associated with a given billing account.

A few things you can try:

  • Double-check that you're following the standard GCP free-trial flow from the public docs: Sign up for Databricks for free on Google Cloud. In particular, make sure you select the Google Cloud project that is associated with the billing account you want to use before clicking Subscribe.
  • Next, verify whether that billing account already has a Databricks Marketplace order attached to it. You can do that by opening the Databricks Marketplace listing and checking Manage Orders, as described here: Manage your subscription on Databricks for Google Cloud. That page also explains how to confirm which Google billing account is associated with a Databricks subscription.
  • If you find that the billing account already has an active or prior Databricks order, the quickest path is usually to retry with a different paid Google Cloud billing account that has not already been used for a Databricks subscription/trial.
  • If you only have one billing account available, or if the billing account looks correct but the error still appears, you’ll likely need help from support to investigate the existing Marketplace/billing-account linkage. You can open a case through Databricks Help.

When you raise the support ticket, you can also share a screenshot of the Marketplace order page with the billing account selector and order status visible (with any sensitive information redacted), since that usually makes it much easier to confirm what’s happening.

If this answer resolves your question, could you mark it as “Accept as Solution”? That helps other users quickly find the correct fix.
