If you are shocked by this title, it is probably because our feelings on big data are based on two incorrect assumptions:
- Big data was a hype of the 2010s, everything was big data, but soon everyone realized that big is undefined, and the size of the data doesn't matter.
- There is a belief that hardware has improved quickly, and whatever was big back in 2010 actually probably fits inside one big machine or a data warehouse
The reality is big data is everywhere and it is BIGGER than ever. Big data is thriving within enterprises and enabling them to innovate with AI and analytics in ways that were impossible just a few years ago. Many of the most important revenue generating or cost saving AI workloads depend on massive data sets. In many cases, there is no AI without big data.
