Azure SCIM Usage and Alternatives for Databricks

jv_v

Hello Databricks Community,

I'm exploring the use of Azure SCIM for our Databricks environment and have a few questions:

  1. How is Azure SCIM useful for Databricks? What are the specific benefits or advantages of using SCIM for user and group provisioning in Databricks?

  2. Is there a successor to SCIM? If so, what are the key differences and improvements compared to SCIM?

  3. Prerequisites for Automating SCIM: What are the necessary prerequisites and configurations required to automate SCIM for Databricks?

  4. Alternative Approaches: Are there any other recommended approaches or tools for user and group provisioning in Databricks that might be more efficient or easier to manage than SCIM?

Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi @jv_v,

Let’s dive into your questions about Azure SCIM and its relevance for Databricks:

  1. Azure SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) is a powerful tool for managing user and group provisioning in Databricks. Here are some key benefits:

  2. As for a successor to SCIM, there isn’t a direct replacement within Databricks. However, it’s essential to stay informed about any future developments or enhancements in this area.

  3. Prerequisites for Automating SCIM:

  4. Alternative Approaches: While SCIM is a robust solution, consider these alternatives:

    • Manual Provisioning: If automation isn’t critical, you can continue manually provisioning users and groups.
    • Custom Scripts: Develop custom scripts or tools to manage provisioning.
    • Third-Party Tools: Explore third-party tools that integrate with Databricks for user management.

Remember that the choice depends on your specific requirements, organizational processes, and scalability needs.

If you need further assistance or have additional questions, feel free to ask!
