The visualisation of workflow tasks doesn't handle particular layouts well. This is because the arrows can pass underneath task blocks, this makes what would be a nice visualisation for exporting into a confusing one.
I have provided an image of a setup the results in this problem. You can see that 'x' is not dependant on 'example' but on first glance it looks like it is, but it is the dependency arrow from 'example' to 'y' passing underneath 'x' that makes it look this way.
