You have hit your free daily limit

Hello!

I'm getting  "Error while starting SQL warehouse. Sorry, cannot run the resource because you have hit your free daily limit. Please come back again tomorrow."

Do you know when exactly the reset happens?

Thank you!

Hi Mark,

Databricks workspace's compute resources will be shut down and unavailable for the rest of the day (a month in extreme cases) if you exceed the quota. While the compute will be unavailable, Data and settings will not be deleted. You can resume the work when the limit resets. Free Edition accounts may not be used for commercial purposes. The reset likely happens at midnight UTC or midnight in your account's region but it's not documented.

Hi @mark_lenders,

Hi, I donโ€™t believe thereโ€™s a publicly documented exact reset time for this limit. The Databricks Free Edition limitations page shared by @balajij8 explains that if you exceed your quota, compute resources can become unavailable for the rest of the day, and you can resume once the limit resets, but it does not publish a specific reset timestamp or timezone.

So the best assumption is that this should recover after the daily limit window resets, but it may not line up with midnight UTC. If you have just hit the limit, I would recommend you try again later.

I should also point out that the same documentation also notes that in extreme cases, availability can be affected for the rest of the month, but that's probably when users hit the limits repeatedly.

If this answer resolves your question, could you mark it as โ€œAccept as Solutionโ€? That helps other users quickly find the correct fix.
