Starting Data Engineering

Hello everyone, my name is Judith. I have been a tech community manager and customer support for the past 5 years. However, this year I am transitioning to become a data engineer. I would love any recommendations or courses to get started. Thank you.

I would suggest you visiting the Databricks Academy which provides you with amazing free, self-paced courses. You could begin your journey with completing the Databricks Fundamentals badge which helps you learn about the platform basics. Next, dive into the Get Started with Databricks for Data Engineering which provides a basic understanding of data engineering principles and topics such as data collection, extraction, ingestion, and transformation. 

Get your hands dirty on the Databricks Free edition to build, automate, and govern data pipelines. Your ultimate milestone should be passing the Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate exam. The exam guide also provides a list of self-paced (available in Databricks Academy) training which helps incredibly to learn the Data Engineering concepts.

Hello , 

You can start with Databricks Academy I started directly by exploring free Databricks Workspace and its tool , gaining insights from various resources .You can start with Data Ingestion , there are lot many clouds that databricks give as option . We connected with Salesforce Database . Then you can create Medallion Architecture (bronze , silver, gold layers ) to do data cleaning , data transformations and data processing . then you can try to create a pipeline , update back on Cloud Database from where you fetched the data . Schedule job , email alerts etc . This much will help you get through the workflow in databricks .
